The long hard slog.... fun and joy and winter training

So its back to training through a British winter - I managed to avoid it the last two years, but now I'm back. Having not raced
properly the last two years, I'm already quite excited for next season, which is pretty cool - its like starting out racing all over
again. Having been at about the same level the last few years, I decided that in order to step up I needed to take my training a bit
more seriously - starting with getting a good base with mileage over the winter. So for the first time ever I actually have a PLAN!
Killing time at Boston airport I sketched out the next three months, loosely based on a three week build and one week recovery.
I'm slowly converting to hours, but I still like using miles, so I worked in miles then roughly worked out the corresponding hours -
with the hills round here I'll be aiming to get the time completed rather than the miles, we'll see how it works out.

I thought having it live here would help keep me motivated to meet the targets - I'm sure they'll be plenty of times when I need
something to make me head out in the rain and cold. Mind you, after riding in minus-double-figures cold in Massachusetts, it all
doesn't seem too bad here so far. I've been riding after work in the dark when its been 1 degree and still been having fun, I just
hope the novelty doesn't wear off! Still, the roads round here are so fantastic that I should be able to continue getting lost most of
the winter, which is much more entertaining than just riding the same old loops time and again.
